Dental Accidents & Facial Trauma

For instances of a broken, dislodged, or knocked-out tooth, be sure to follow these steps after you have called Summit Endodontics:

  • Try to find any pieces of the tooth that you can.
  • Pick the tooth up only by the crown (top part) and avoid touching the root (the bottom part).
  • Gently rinse your mouth with warm water.
  • Try to place the tooth back into its socket until you can make it to our office.
  • If this isn’t possible, put it in a container of milk, saltwater, or the inside of your cheek. It needs to remain moist until you can see us!
  • A cold compress or over-the-counter (OTC) pain medication can help lessen any pain or swelling.

Dental Emergencies Due to Oral Care Neglect

A very painful toothache can seemingly pop up out of nowhere, but when one does, it needs immediate attention, as it could indicate that you have a serious infection. Here are some tips on how to handle the situation on your own until you’re able to come see us:

  • Gently rinse your mouth with warm water.
  • Floss around the tooth to dislodge anything that might be causing the pain.
  • Place a cold compress on the face or take an OTC medicine to help with pain. Avoid putting an aspirin directly on the gums near a tooth, as this could damage them.

Extractions

While our number one goal is to help our patients preserve all of their natural teeth for as long as possible, sometimes, the absolute best thing we can do for someone’s oral/overall health is remove one. We may choose to extract a tooth if:

  • It is too damaged or decayed to be repaired
  • Gum disease has weakened the bone needed to support it
